The technical work towards standardization of River Information Services is performed by the four RIS Expert Groups. They are international technical platforms ensuring the harmonized development of RIS Standards, primarily in Europe.
The RIS Expert Groups (RIS EGs) produce the standards and updates, but also technical clarification documents, guidelines and other relevant documents around the RIS key-technologies.
The RIS EGs are:
- composed of various representatives, active in inland navigation, such as governmental bodies, branch organizations, research institutes, consultants and industry.
- international technical platforms ensuring the harmonized development of RIS Standards in Europe
The Expert Groups’ proposal for standards and other documents are mainly delivered to the EU but also to the CCNR or other international bodies such as the UNECE. These are the authorities that can give the documents a legal basis.
The work of the EGs is based on Terms of Reference (ToR), specific for each EG.
