EU support programmes

General > European Union (EU) > EU support programmes

the current financial framework from 2014 to 2020, the European Union offers several financing programmes for Inland Waterway Transport (IWT) infrastructure:

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is a key EU funding instrument to promote growth, jobs and competitiveness through targeted infrastructure investment at European level. It supports the development of high performing, sustainable and efficiently interconnected trans-European networks in the fields of transport, energy and digital services. CEF investments fill the missing links in Europe's energy, transport and digital backbone.
The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) regulation establishes the conditions, methods and procedures for the Union's financial contribution to transport projects. The budget for the transport sector during the 2014-2020 period exceeds 26 billion Euros.
Since January 2014, INEA is your gateway to funding under the CEF, as INEA implements most of the CEF programme budget.

The Cohesion Fund (CF) as well as the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) may be used for co-financing River Information Services in “Cohesion-countries”, while the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) provides co-financing for EU Candidate and potential Candidate countries.

Research projects for transport solutions are funded by Horizon 2020: eg. this financial envelope is devoted to developing concepts for smart, green and integrated transport systems. It is here where research and development projects with regards to River Information Services could be included.
