On April 11 2011, the Danube Commission organized and hosted the first RIS Workshop “Application of River Information Services (RIS) in the Danube Navigation” in Budapest, Hungary. The objective of this workshop was to exchange experiences regarding RIS among the different European countries and experts.

About 60 participants joined the meeting to learn more about the state-of-the-art and future of River Information Services in Danube area and throughout Europe. Besides all member states of the Danube Commission (Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Russian Federation) representatives from the EC, UNECE, Sava Commission, RIS Expert Groups, EU projects representatives (RISING, IRIS EUROPE II, NEWADA), RIS Equipment producers, and police (Aquapol) participated. Many presentations were given. During the workshop it was stated that River Information Services, such as currently developed in the RISING project, will support IWT operators in port management and logistic optimalisation processes, saving time and money.
