[more]The contract for the implementation of River Information Services (RIS) on the Serbian stretch of the Danube has been signed at the premises of EC Delegation in Belgrade.Funded by the European Union and in line with the EU RIS Directive (2005/44/EC), the overall programme for the introduction of RIS on the Serbian Danube will run for 36 months and is worth close to EUR 10 million. The beneficiary of the program is Plovput, the Serbia Inland Waterway Maintenance Agency.Selex Sistemi Integrati, team leader of a temporary business association with Periskal doo (Serbia) and Tresco Cvba (Belgium), will set up an operational RIS system consisting of 15 AIS base stations, enabling tracking and tracing of vessels, sub-systems with - among others - a Notices to Skippers system, electronic ship reporting and a system for provision of DGPS corrections. A ship equipment programme, for provision of ship borne Inland AIS units to the users, is also envisaged during the lifetime of the project.
The Serbian RIS system, which will conform to the latest standards in the field of RIS, will be offering the Serbian inland navigation community a state-of-the art system that will allow users – the Serbian river shipping authority, river police, customs and the private sector – to benefit from one most complex and sophisticated RIS systems on the Danube River.
The supervision of the project will be made by a consortium led by iC Consulenten Ziviltechniker GmbH in partnership with via donau providing the RIS expert know-how.
