PIANC relaeses Guidelines and Recommendations for RIS (3 parts)
PIANC, the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure, published Guidelines and Recommendations for River Information Services in 2002 (Edition 1) and 2004 (Edition 2). In order to reflect the technological progress, the PIANC Working Group 125 started to revise the guidelines in February 2008. Based on this review a new version of the Guidelines was prepared.
On 12 January 2012, PIANC released the PIANC RIS Guidelines Edition 3. The RIS working group (WG 115) of PIANC has developed the revised PIANC RIS Guidelines 2012 Edition 3. Available at a fee from the PIANC website.
The principal changes between Edition 2 and Edition 3 of the Guidelines are based on the experiences gained in the RIS implementation processes since 2004. These experiences are reflected in:
- Chapter 2 where some definitions are added. A separate PIANC document will be published on RIS related definitions as used in international organizations active in the RIS arena and in different technical RIS regulations.
- Chapter 3 where a sub-service Traffic Planning as part of the RIS service Traffic Management is introduced;
- Chapter 4 where the use of RIS Key technologies including the relevancy of reference data like RIS index and hull data are described;
- Chapter 5 where the relations between RIS key technologies and the RIS services and different RIS information categories are highlighted;
- Chapter 6 is rather drastically revised and is providing support to implement RIS in a structured approach.
