Parties involved
Both European and international bodies have impact on RIS by means of regulations, resolutions, recommendations, standards and others. A short overview of these bodies including Internet addresses for additional information follows here below.
European Union EU
The European Union develops European Inland Waterways policies for its Member States. Policies are implemented by various means, i.e. regulations, directives and recommendations. Decisions are made by the institutional triangle made up of the European Council, the European Parliament and the European Commission. >
Other international bodies
Several International bodies promote cooperation and collaboration between countries and continents and produce international regulations. >
European River Commissions
The River Commissions coordinate the interest of the different basin states. Also, they are responsible for improving collaboration on waterborn transport between states and relevant national ministries to create synergy on an international level. The River Commissions working groups discuss common basin-problems, exchange experiences and seek joint solutions. >
