SIF II

In 2006, Voies Navigables de France (VNF) – national RIS authority - started a pilot RIS implementation project - called SIF I - on the Seine-Scheldt waterway axis. The SIF I project (co-financed by TEN-T) set up:
- a traffic monitoring system
- an Electronic Reporting pilot infrastructure

In 2011 VNF launched the project SIF II (total €4,714,100 - TEN-T co-financed part €1,160,080) as a next step towards the full deployment of RIS in France. The project will run until the end of 2013,

SIF II comprises of the following activities:
1. Inland AIS equipment program: 1360 Inland AIS transponders will be co-financed for commercial vessels (self-propelled vessels, cruise ships and push boats).
2. Extension of the Inland AIS shore infrastructure, ie shoredeploy AIS shore antennas (approximately 40) on the Moselle river and the Rhine river on 340 km of the high capacity French waterways.
3. Further development of additional services for RIS users - on basis of the system implementation of SIF I - for several ports, the French customs, authorities in neighbouring countries and commercial users. These services will include:
- voyage notifications,
- tracking and tracing of vessels,
- berth management services and
- the interconnection to the European Hull Database (EHBD).
